In the month of May, more than 10,000 civil society organisations and unions from more than 20 countries launched the campaign ‘The Time Is Now’, demanding the Heads of Government in European countries for an agreement on the Financial Transactions Tax (FTT), also known as the Robin Hood Tax, on the occasion of the ECOFIN meeting on 17th June.
The campaign was supported by several European personalities. In Spain, journalist Iñaki Gabilondo and economist Jose Moisés Martín joined the launch with several videos reflecting the importance of the future agreement. We and the other organisations created a website for citizens to be able to show their support for the tax, and we sent a joint letter to the Heads of Government in each European country which was a part of the negotiations to ask for an agreement by the ECOFIN meeting in June. |
